Whenever there is a mighty move of God we begin to hear prophecies or divine announcements of what is coming. There is talk of seasons changing, doors opening, and new paths to walk in. There is also proclamations and declarations that describe changes taking place in the atmosphere, heavenly realms, and in the earth. We are told that if we want to partake of the blessings and participate in the move of God that we need to “shift” or move along with God, not resisting what He is doing or the changes that He is making. All of this is absolutely wonderful to me. Even when things are going well in my life, I am always in awe of God’s sovereignty, majesty, and omnipotence. The only thing about all of this is that it seems like the shifts are so sudden and “out of the blue” that sometimes our natural senses have a hard time catching up to what is happening spiritually. Especially when the changes that take place are not necessarily bad, but just not what you had in mind.
What are we supposed to do in between seasons? What are we supposed to do when the announcement has been made and you are waiting to see the manifestation of it? What are you supposed to do when the most recent prophecy sounds a lot like other prophecies in the past? How are you supposed to move with God and shift when you have no idea what that will really mean or cost? Honestly these are questions that many people have but are afraid to ask, but the answers are so vital to receiving the promises of God in full manifestation. Here are some scriptures that answer these questions to encourage you as you shift in to the new season of promise.
Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
I know this scripture is used a lot when talking about waiting on God and standing on the promises, but that is because it is so true. This scripture explains to us the type of attitude and posture that we should maintain while we are waiting, shifting, working, etc. This is also a word of defense against the spirit of heaviness. Check your thoughts, reactions, and what your conversations are about. If you find yourself complaining, blaming, irritable, short tempered, or overwhelmed this could be a sign that weariness is trying to set in. To get back on track begin to praise, worship, meditate on scripture, and change what you are talking/thinking about to something that aligns with the promise you are waiting for.
Hebrews 4:9-11 So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.
From this scripture we can be assured that we can enter into the promises that God has prepared for us. However, in order to get to God’s “special rest” or promise we have to be intentional and obedient. Yes our God is gracious, and the atoning Blood of Jesus has cleansed us and made us righteous, but in the parent – child relationship we have with Father God, we have to recognize that He wants a true relationship with us, and that will require submission on our part. This requires that we get rid of the “go with the flow,” “whatever will happen will happen” type of mentality. Western culture is negative about hoping for good things to transpire as an effect of fear of disappointment or humiliation from desiring bigger, better, superior outcomes than what is naturally predictable. So we have to be intentionally focused on the promise and obedient to the terms of receiving the promise. Some promises have terms and conditions, these do not require “works,” they require obedience. Check your focus and obedience levels. What is causing distraction or temptation to disobey? Resist it- submit it to God, consciously resist it and it will flee (James 4:7).
Philippians 4:4-8 (NLT) Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Be joyful and concentrate on the good things to come and the good things that God has already done and is doing. A key part of being joyful is thankfulness. When you are between two seasons take a moment and thank God for the previous season. Thank Him for the lessons you learned, the gifts and blessings that were released. Thank Him for how he protected you in the midst of the fiery trials that you endured. Even if it seems like there was nothing good about an old season, thank Him for the anointing, power, faith, and intimacy with God that was activated during your most difficult times. Thank God for what is coming, speaking in faith according to the promise. Thank God for being a healer, provider, father, friend, advocate, counselor, comforter, resting place, Prince of Peace, Lord of Lords – need I go on? There are unending amounts of things we can thank God for, so even if you don’t feel especially thankful at the moment give a sacrifice of praise and bless God for choosing you, for making covenant with you, and for keeping you in the midst of whatever is going on in your life.
Acts 3:5 And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them.
Expect to receive what God promised. Don’t allow your mind, past disappointments, other people’s opinions, or anything get you into doubt. Be vigilant against doubt and discouragement. Also if you slip up, don’t beat yourself up. Repent of your doubt, unbelief, and discouragement and remind God of how much you trust Him by praising, worshiping, and putting your focus back on Him.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Even if you do not know what the promise will look like when it comes, exercise your faith by believing that if God sent it, it will be good to you and for you. Now I caution you to not be led by your physical senses, because some necessary seasons do not always feel good. But judge the fruit: Is it helping you to line up with God’s plan for your life? Is it developing in you characteristics that improve you as a person? Is this season helping you to identify what has caused problems for you in the past so that you can overcome them? Are you growing and becoming more intimate in your relationship with God? If you can answer yes to these questions, just know that God is working although it may not feel good, His ultimate plan for you is for good – not evil, and will bring you to your place of destiny.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
Although you have a responsibility to trust, have faith, and remain joyful while you wait, the good news is that God’s favor and blessing towards you is going to do the work. He is going to empower you to do all that you need to do to obtain the promises when you place your trust in Him. Some people don’t get the promises just because they don’t realize that God is really going to do it. Develop childlike faith by simply agreeing that God keeps His word so, if He said it – it will come to pass.
Let us pray: Father God thank You for all of the promises that You are releasing right now to us. Lord we come to You confident in Your ability to do anything that You have expressed that You will do. We stand in agreement with Your word that says Your word will not come back to You void, but will accomplish all that You intended and will prosper in the place that You sent it. Lord we acknowledge that You are not a man that You should lie nor a man that You should repent, You are trustworthy, You have already proved Yourself over and over again. Lord we lift up anyplace in us that doubt, fear, unbelief, worry, anxiety, wounds from disappointment, resistance, disobedience, or rebellion are hiding out in our lives and ask You to cleanse it out with Your precious Blood. Lord we are expecting to see in our lifetime certain promises to come to pass. We know that You are in charge and that we cannot force Your hand, but we do ask that You help us to obtain everything that You desire us to have, walk in, and release in the Mighty name of Jesus. Lord we agree that all power is in Your hand therefore nothing and no one can stop, block, obstruct, steal, or corrupt anything that You release to us because every good and perfect gift comes from You. Lord we thank You in advance trusting and believing before we see it by activating out faith in You. Lord we thank You for answering prayers that we forgot about, bringing blessing that we gave up on just as a reminder that Your love never fails. Lord help us to contend for the blessings, breakthroughs, and promises not just for ourselves but for our families, neighbors, coworkers, friends, or even people that we do not know. Lord let the manifestation of the promise in our lives be a light of witness that will magnetize people to You. Lord let us not become weary in well doing, and let us not covet, become discontented, disgruntled, or bitter while we wait. Lord please forgive us for anytime that we gave into unbelief in the past and break all legal rights to that spirit in the Mighty name of Jesus. Lord fill us up with more of You, more expectation, faith, joy, and peace in the mighty name of Jesus. Lord we thank You for all of these things in Jesus name AMEN!
